Clark Twins

The parents of the Clark Twins were Edward L. Clark (1845 – 1914) and Waumaconie (1868 – 1946). They were married on April 7, 1883, by U.S. Indian Agent P. B. Hunt. The Clarks had 10 children:

  1. Elsie Clark (1884 – 1944)
  2. Benjamin H. Clark (1888 – 1907) [1]
  3. Edward H. Clark (1890 – 1959)>
  4. Lewis Clark (1894 – 1940)
  5. George L. Clark (1896 – 1944)
  6. William McKinley Clark (1898 – 1942) [2]
  7. Mary Clark (1902 -1902) (twin)
  8. Theodore Clark (1902 – 1902) (twin) [3]
  9. Joel Barker Clark (1903 – 1990)
  10. Albert Clark (1906 – 1997)

Waumaconie - ca. 1898The Missouri family members of Edward L. Clark were all staunch Republicans. Likewise, Edward L. Clark was as strong a supporter of the Republican Party as could be found. Note the birth dates and the terms of office of the presidential namesakes of three of Clark’s boys. Mary was named after her grandmother, Mary Barker Clark. It could be speculated that Theodore’s middle name was Roosevelt, but no record exists of that name.

Edward L. Clark - 1880The twins were born in February 1902. Mary died on September 30, 1902, and Theodore on October 15, 1902. They are buried side-by-side in graves numbered 13 and 14 on the 1984 Spivey List. Which of the graves contains one or the other is unknown, nor do we know the cause of death of these two infants. Another curious aspect of their burial is the fact that the concrete grave slab for Grave 13 is typical of the size for an infant while the grave slab for Grave 14 is longer, typical of an adult burial.
